It's alive! Upon return to the states, the unveiling of the comatose laptop revealed a working system. A miracle!
Thanks for hanging in there with me as I waited for good news on the diagnosis of my computer. Thanks to Kristine for the use of her hair dryer, Suzanne and Therese on the advice to "pack it in rice", to Teresa for her leather man's tool, and to Sue for loaning me her computer for the duration of the trip.
